Inter Milan chief executive Giuseppe Marotta said the club were in no rush about a possible return of Romelu Lukaku but remain keen on signing him back this summer following an interview he gave to Sky in Italy last December oblige

Chelsea paid Inter £97.5m to sign Lukaku last summer but the Belgian has only scored eight goals in 26 Premier League games.

In December, Lukaku told heaven in Italy He wanted to return to Inter one day. He said: “I really hope from the bottom of my heart to return to Inter, not at the end of my career but at a still good level to hopefully win more.”

It was revealed last week that Inter cannot afford to sign Lukaku – who scored 64 goals in 95 games during his time at the club and helped them win the Serie A title – on a permanent deal.

“One of the worst transfers in PL history”

Kaveh Solhekol and Dharmesh Sheth debate whether Romelu Lukaku is one of the worst Premier League signings ever as the Chelsea striker is set to return to Inter Milan

Kaveh Solhekol, Sky Sports News chief reporter:

“I think it’s close, but it’s not imminent. Inter CEO Beppe Marotta spoke earlier, he said they jumped at the chance to re-sign Romelu Lukaku, but it’s not imminent. He said it wasn’t.” will be announced today.

“You can’t take anything positive from it. The transfer will go down in Premier League history as one of the worst transfer deals of all time. Chelsea signed him for almost £100m, he was brilliant at Inter for two seasons but came to Chelsea and things quickly started to go wrong.

“He gave this interview to Sky Italy where he basically said he wanted to come back to Inter. From the outside it looks like his heart wasn’t in it. I understand he likes the way Chelsea play, not particularly.” Thomas Tuchel but it doesn’t look like he’s tried too hard to adapt. I think the vast majority of Chelsea supporters will be happy to see him from behind.

“But it’s an extraordinary story, a player they signed for almost £100m comes back to Inter a year later on what will likely be on loan and Inter will pay £10m to begin with. And then there’s his salary, because he makes around £325,000 a week at Chelsea. Someone close to the negotiations told us yesterday that he is leaving. He has no future at Chelsea.”

What positions are Chelsea aiming for?

Melissa Reddy, Sky Sports News senior reporter:

Chelsea are moving ahead with their summer recruitment plans after completing the club’s £4.25billion consortium takeover led by Todd Boehly.

The Blues have already reached a verbal agreement with Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, with the Spanish club preferring a quick deal as they aim to balance their books before June 30.

Talks over a deal for Kounde stalled last year but there is optimism from all quarters that this time it will happen.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Presnel Kimpembe has been shortlisted as a central defender in favor of Thomas Tuchel. Jose Gimenez from Atletico Madrid and Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig are also among the candidates.

Chelsea like Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni but he is expected to end up at Real Madrid. PSV’s Ibrahim Sangare is one of the sought-after alternatives.
