Rangers transfer news: Forward Antonio Colak signs from PAOK | football news

Rangers have completed the signing of striker Antonio Colak from Greek club PAOK.

The 28-year-old joins Ibrox for £1.8m plus surcharges. He has signed a three-year contract with Rangers, who have an option for a fourth year.

“I am very happy to sign with Rangers,” said Colak after signing the contract.

“I’ve already played in front of these incredible fans and now I want to experience for myself what it’s like to be part of this massive club, win trophies and achieve every club goal.

“I want to be part of this big family and I’m very excited and can’t wait to get started.”

Colak, on loan to Malmo for the first half of last season, was capped three times for Croatia and scored a double when Malmo knocked Rangers out of the Champions League in the third qualifying stage last summer.

He scored 19 goals for the Sweden side before returning to PAOK in January where he had limited opportunities.

Welcome to Antonio, we are delighted to welcome him to our squad. I know how much Gio and the staff look forward to working with him on the pitch.

Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson on Colak’s signing

Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst said: “He is a very experienced player who has played at a high level and scored a lot of goals for the teams he has played for.

“We wanted to add a few more players to our offensive options and Colak is a player we really welcome and who will give us a lot of strength up front.”

With speculation lingering over Alfredo Morelos’ future, Rangers need new attacking options.

Spanish club Sevilla have been linked with the Colombian striker, who is in the final year of his current contract, although reports of a formal offer have been dismissed.

Amad Diallo has returned to Manchester United from loan and Cedric Itten joined Swiss club BSC Young Boys last month.

Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Sky Sports News:

“I think he has shown in the teams he has played for that he can score goals and is a very good striker. He caused us a lot of damage at the beginning of last season, which also showed his quality.”

“Obviously we have a new season ahead of us and we want to be successful in all the competitions we play in so we need to have the squad to be able to do that too.

“So we are more than happy that he will join us.

Kris Boyd believes his former club Rangers are in a strong position and need not be forced to sell striker Alfredo Morelos this summer

Kris Boyd insists Rangers are in a strong position at Alfredo Morelos and insists there is no need to let the forward go.

“It’s been every single transfer window since he arrived that he’s basically going to leave.

“There will come a day when he does.

“Right now I think Rangers are in a good position. It’s not a case that they have to sell. There is room there to negotiate with the teams.

“I’ve said it before, every player has a price tag. If anyone wants to achieve that rating then I’m sure Rangers will talk about it.

“From the looks of it, he’s a Rangers player.”
