Police name man found dead in Sowerby Bridge Canal

Dale Mawson, 48, from Sowerby Bridge, was found dead in the water off Wharf Street on Tuesday morning.

Police consider his death “unexplained”.

As the Courier reported earlier this week, they were called at 9:21 a.m. Tuesday to report a safety issue and attended by paramedics and firefighters.

Chief Detective Inspector Sharron Kaye, of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Investigations team, said: ‘We are in the early stages of our investigation but, at this time, we are currently dealing with the death as unexplained.

“As part of our ongoing investigations, we are keen to speak to anyone who has information that can help us establish the circumstances of what happened.

“In particular anyone who may have been in the Sowerby Bridge Canal Wharf area between 1am and 9am on Tuesday 7th June.”
