A man has been arrested in Kent on suspicion of murder after a boy died in north Manchester.
Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a mother and son were both stabbed at a home in Miles Platting around 9.30pm on Thursday.
Paramedics had treated the boy at the scene, but he was taken to hospital, where he died about an hour later.
His mother – a woman in her 40s – was also treated at home for serious stab wounds and taken to hospital where she is in stable condition.
Specially trained officers support the mother and her family.
A 44-year-old man from Manchester was arrested in Kent on Friday on suspicion of murder. It is believed that he is known to the victims.

Chief Detective Inspector Alicia Smith, of GMP’s Major Incidents Team, said: “Last night’s attack left a community in shock and a family coming to terms with what was an absolutely devastating incident. for everyone involved.
“A teenager who had his whole life ahead of him has tragically lost his life and not only is his mother mourning the loss of her son, but she is also recovering from what will undoubtedly have been extremely traumatic.”
The police are still appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
